Fairfield Scrimmage

Posted Tuesday, April 08, 2008 by Heather O'Rourke

This past week the prep scrimmaged Fairfield who has been on the water all year. All boats showed great promise for this coming season. Most boats raced 1000 meters except for the varsity 8 which raced 1500.

The freshman rowed most of the race on the square and did a great job especially since they have been on the water less than 3 weeks. With some more water time the freshman should have a great come back when we race Fairfield later in the season.

The Novice 8 was dominating their race with Fairfield until a misfortunate crab stopped the boat. Again with only 3 weeks of water time (less for those that were away for Easter) the Novice 8 showed that they are a boat to contend with this season.

In the JV 8 race the varsity 4 raced against the Fairfield and FP JV 8's. The Varisty 4 rowed a good race against the JV 8's and edged out both JV's and finished with a nice lead on both 8's. The two JV 8's were neck and neck the entire race and at the finish it was too close to tell which crew won.

The Varisty 4 hot seated on the dock and went into the Varsity 8. Fordham raced 2 Fairfield eights, their light & heavy V8. Fordham had a first half of the race but in the second they allowed Fairfield to edge them out.
